Chapter 5 - The Stolen Truth

I held Leo tightly to my chest, completely unable to process the absolute insanity of this revelation.
"Sophia is alive?" I asked, my voice trembling in the cold underground room.
Lorenzo paced back and forth like a caged predator, his mind racing to connect the horrifying dots.
"The bomb detonated her car, but the body was burned beyond recognition," he muttered to himself.
"She faked her own death to escape the mafia life."
But the puzzle pieces still did not fit together perfectly.
"If she wanted to escape, why would she leave Leo behind to starve?" I asked softly.
Lorenzo stopped pacing and looked at me, a dark realization dawning in his eyes.
He walked over to the security console and pulled up the archived footage from the hospital.
He typed furiously, bringing up the video from the maternity ward on the night I gave birth.
The grainy black-and-white footage showed a woman in a trench coat carrying a small bundle out the back exit.
Lorenzo zoomed in on the woman's wrist as she pushed the heavy door open.
There was a distinct, star-shaped birthmark on her skin.
"That is Sophia," Lorenzo confirmed, his voice shaking with absolute fury.
"She stole your baby right after you delivered."
My knees buckled, and I sank into the chair, clutching Leo protectively.
"Why would a billionaire's wife steal a maid's baby?" I sobbed.
Lorenzo's eyes darted toward Leo, and the color completely vanished from his face once again.
He slowly approached me, staring at the baby in my arms with overwhelming intensity.
"Sophia was completely barren," Lorenzo whispered, his voice cracking.
"She could not have children, and I demanded an heir to secure my empire."
I looked down at Leo, noticing for the first time the shape of his tiny nose and the curve of his brow.
My heart stopped dead in my chest.
"Sophia didn't leave her son behind," Lorenzo realized, tears pooling in his fierce eyes.
"She left a sick decoy, and she took my real heir with her."
I shook my head violently, the horrifying truth crashing down on me like a tidal wave.
May you like
"No, Lorenzo," I gasped, looking at the baby who had magically accepted my milk.
"Leo is my stolen baby."
