Chapter 2 - The Tracker

Dominic stared at the piece of parchment on the floor.

His father had been dead for four years, murdered in a car bombing that remained unsolved.

He looked down at Sofia, who was crying silently while holding her mother's limp hand.

This tiny, terrified girl was his daughter.

He pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed a number he reserved for emergencies.

"Dr. Evans, I need you at the estate in ten minutes, bring a full trauma kit."

He did not wait for an answer before hanging up.

He scooped Elena into his arms, carrying her out of the cramped servant's room.

"Come with me, Sofia," he commanded softly.

They moved to his private suite in the east wing, where nobody was allowed to enter.

He laid Elena on his massive king-sized bed, placing a warm blanket over her shivering body.

Dr. Evans arrived exactly nine minutes later, carrying two heavy medical bags.

The old doctor did not ask questions as he hooked Elena to an IV drip and injected a clear liquid into her arm.

"She has been poisoned with a slow-acting neurotoxin," Dr. Evans whispered, wiping sweat from his forehead.

"I stabilized her, but we need to run tests to find the exact antidote."

As the doctor shined a penlight into Elena's eyes, he suddenly paused and frowned.

He ran his fingers over a small, raised bump on the back of Elena's neck.

"Mr. Moretti, there is a microchip implanted under her skin."

Dominic's jaw clenched tight.

"Take it out right now."

The doctor made a tiny incision, pulling out a metallic chip the size of a grain of rice.

A microscopic red light was blinking furiously on the device.

"It is an active GPS transmitter," the doctor said, his voice trembling with fear.

Before Dominic could process this, his radio buzzed loudly on the nightstand.

It was Marcus, his head of security.

"Boss, we have three armored SUVs breaching the front gates, heavily armed."

Dominic looked at the blinking tracker, realizing the terrifying truth.

"Marcus, lock down the estate," Dominic yelled into the radio.

The response he got made his heart stop completely.

"I am sorry, Dominic," Marcus's voice echoed through the speaker.

"But the people coming through those gates are the ones paying me now."
