Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Arthur screamed in absolute agony as Dominic picked up the muddy ledger.
"You lost, Arthur," Dominic said coldly, pointing his gun at the bleeding man's head.
"Your empire is finished, and you are going to die alone on this rotting dock."
Arthur spat blood onto Dominic's shoes, laughing a twisted, gurgling laugh.
"You think you won, boy?"
Dominic pulled the trigger without another word, ending the laughter permanently.
He turned away from the corpse and walked back to the shipping crates.
Elena was holding Sofia tightly, tears of overwhelming relief pouring down her face.
"It's over," Dominic whispered, dropping his weapon and pulling them both into a desperate embrace.
The nightmare had finally ended; the traitors were dead, and his family was safe.
They walked toward the car, the rising sun painting the cloudy sky with a soft, beautiful pink glow.
Dominic opened the passenger door, helping Elena into the warm leather seat.
He smiled at Sofia, reaching out to brush a wet strand of hair from her cheek.
Sofia didn't smile back.
She looked at him with perfectly flat, emotionless eyes that seemed far too old for a child.
She reached into the pocket of her flowered nightgown and pulled out a small, metallic remote.
"I told you, you were too tall," the three-year-old girl said with terrifying clarity.
She pressed the red button on the remote with her tiny thumb.
A deafening explosion ripped through the engine block of Dominic's car, throwing him violently backward onto the bloody pavement.
Through the ringing in his ears, Dominic watched in absolute horror as Elena stepped out of the burning wreckage completely unharmed.
Elena smiled, gently taking the remote from the child's hand, and pulled out a radio.

"The Moretti bloodline is erased," she said into the radio, looking down at Dominic's bleeding body.
"Send the cleanup crew, and tell the Falcone family that New York is officially ours."
