Chapter 7 - The Confession
Lauren approached the bed slowly, letting the deadly syringe catch the afternoon light.
Vincent did not show a single ounce of fear or panic.
He looked directly into her eyes and asked her about the fifty thousand dollar withdrawal.
Lauren froze in her tracks.
Her confident, wicked smile vanished into thin air.
Vincent calmly told her that he had found the receipt and the photograph hidden beneath his mattress.
Lauren dropped the syringe, her hands shaking so violently she could barely stand.
Tears spilled down her cheeks as she swore she did not pay anyone to shoot him.
She fell to her knees and confessed the truth.
She admitted she used the syndicate money to pay off Marco.
Marco had caught her in a compromising position and was blackmailing her.
Vincent felt a sickening twist in his gut.
He asked her, in a voice like crushed ice, who she was having an affair with.
Lauren looked up, her mascara running down her pale face.
She whispered that she had been sleeping with Dominic for over a year.
Before Vincent could even process the magnitude of the betrayal, a deafening noise shattered the room.
