Chapter 5 - The Poisoned Pen

Dominic straightened his suit jacket and walked out of the bedroom with a triumphant smirk.
Vincent sat in his wheelchair, staring at the thick leather folder resting on his paralyzed legs.
He opened the documents and began reading the dense legal jargon.
His sharp mind quickly realized these were not shipping manifests or union contracts.
The paperwork was cleverly disguised.
Hidden on the fourth page was an irrevocable transfer of medical proxy.
If Vincent signed the document, he would give Lauren absolute legal authority over his healthcare.
She would have the power to terminate his life support if he were ever incapacitated.
Vincent realized they were not planning to shoot him again.
They were planning to put him in a permanent, quiet coma.
Tessa walked into the room carrying a silver tray with his afternoon medication and a bowl of hot soup.
Vincent looked at the steaming broth.
He suddenly caught a faint, sweet scent coming from the liquid.
It smelled exactly like bitter almonds.
Vincent slapped the tray out of Tessa's hands.
The porcelain bowl shattered against the hardwood floor, spilling the hot liquid everywhere.
Tessa jumped back in absolute shock, asking what was wrong.
Vincent pointed at the ruined soup and told her it was laced with cyanide.
Tessa stared at the mess, her eyes wide with sheer terror.
May you like
She looked up at Vincent with a trembling lip.
She whispered that Lauren was the one who personally prepared the tray in the kitchen.
