Chapter 6 - The Ransom

"Hello there, Claire," Jeremy said casually, as if they were just chatting happily about the pleasant weather.
Claire screamed her terrified sister's name, pressing her shaking hands violently against the phone screen.
"If you truly want Lily to live, you are going to bring me that digital flash drive tonight," Jeremy demanded.
Adrian forcefully snatched the phone right out of Claire's trembling hands without a single hesitation.
"If you dare to harm a single hair on that girl's head, I will absolutely burn your entire world down," Adrian roared.
Jeremy laughed nervously, clearly deeply intimidated by the incredibly powerful mafia boss.
"Pier forty-two at exactly midnight, come completely alone or the little girl dies," Jeremy said hastily before ending the call.
Claire collapsed completely against the cold metal wall of the freight elevator, sobbing absolutely uncontrollably.
"He actually has my little sister, Adrian, I have to give him the drive," she begged frantically.
Adrian pulled her incredibly gently into his strong chest, letting her cry freely into his expensive suit.
"I absolutely promise you that we are going to save her, but we are not doing it his twisted way," he swore.
They spent the next few tense hours formulating a remarkably ruthless tactical plan at a hidden warehouse.
Claire would bravely act as the primary bait to aggressively draw Jeremy out into the open harbor.
Marcus and a skilled team of elite snipers would perfectly surround the designated pier in the dark shadows.
As midnight rapidly approached, the incredibly thick harbor fog rolled heavily over the dark, freezing water.
Claire walked slowly down the damp wooden planks of Pier forty-two, clutching the flash drive tightly.
Jeremy stepped out confidently from behind a stack of rusty shipping containers, holding a loaded gun directly to Lily's head.
"Toss the drive over here right now," Jeremy ordered loudly, his wild eyes darting around nervously in the fog.
Adrian suddenly stepped out of the thick fog, his own lethal weapon aimed perfectly at Jeremy's chest.
"Let the innocent girl go, Jeremy, you have absolutely nowhere left to run," Adrian commanded firmly.
Jeremy sneered aggressively and pressed his heavy gun much harder against the crying girl's temple.

Suddenly, Claire clearly heard the unmistakable metallic click of a gun being firmly cocked right behind her.
She turned around in sheer terror to see Marcus pointing his heavy pistol directly at Adrian's back.
