Chapter 2 - The Ambush

Adrian did not look surprised by the sudden arrival of armed men inside his secure building.
He calmly reached under his heavy wooden desk and pulled out a sleek silver handgun.
"Stay entirely behind me, Claire," Adrian ordered in a low, extremely dangerous voice.
He walked out of the executive office with a terrifying level of absolute confidence.
Claire followed closely behind him, her heart hammering wildly against her aching ribs.
They reached the glass balcony overlooking the massive ground-floor lobby.
Four men in cheap leather jackets were pointing loaded weapons at the terrified receptionists.
The leader of the group looked up and aggressively locked eyes with Adrian.
"We are just here for the girl, Vale," the violent debt collector yelled upward.
Adrian leaned casually against the glass railing, expertly hiding his weapon behind his back.
"You have exactly ten seconds to leave my building before I paint this beautiful lobby with your blood," Adrian warned calmly.
The debt collector laughed loudly, a cruel and incredibly ugly sound that echoed off the marble walls.
"She owes us a massive amount of money, and the boss wants her body as immediate payment," the man sneered.
Adrian did not waste another single breath on a pointless verbal warning.
He raised his weapon and fired three rapid shots with terrifying, deadly precision.
The leader dropped his weapon instantly, screaming in agony as a bullet shattered his kneecap.
The other three men froze in absolute terror, suddenly realizing they were completely outmatched.
"Tell Petrov that Claire Bennett is my beloved fiancé, and her debt is officially cleared," Adrian commanded loudly.
The thugs dragged their profusely bleeding leader out of the glass doors as fast as they physically could.
Adrian turned to Claire, his striking gray eyes completely devoid of any fear.
"We heavily need to get you to a secure safe house right now," he said firmly.
He grabbed her trembling hand and led her quickly toward the private underground garage.
They arrived at Claire's tiny apartment simply to pack a small bag of her essential belongings.

Adrian kicked her front door open, but immediately pushed her backward into the dark hallway.
Her entire apartment had been violently ransacked, and a massive pool of fresh blood covered her living room rug.
