Chapter 8 - The Underground Prison

Victoria dropped the blood-soaked bandages onto the metal floor of the truck.
She could not comprehend the words the former director had just spoken.
She had spent her entire life believing she was an orphan before Arthur took her in.
The director explained that Arthur had kept her parents locked in cryogenic stasis to steal their patents.
He used Victoria as a highly public puppet to legally control their massive technology empire.
Julian gritted his teeth against the pain and asked how they could breach the underground vault.
The director pulled a heavy tactical duffel bag from under the seat and unzipped it.
The bag was filled with military-grade explosives and an advanced biometric hacking device.
She stated that she had spent the last five years planning her ultimate revenge against Arthur.
The armored truck screeched to a halt in a dark service tunnel beneath the city's financial district.
Julian forced himself to stand up despite the burning agony radiating from his side.
He strapped a tactical vest over his bloody shirt and grabbed an assault rifle.
Victoria refused to stay behind and picked up a heavy titanium crowbar from the tool rack.
They followed the director down a damp concrete corridor that smelled of rust and decay.
They reached a massive circular steel door that looked exactly like a bank vault.
The director attached the hacking device to the keypad and began overriding the security protocols.
Red emergency lights suddenly began spinning violently across the dark ceiling.
A mechanical voice echoed through the tunnel announcing a complete biometric lockdown.
The heavy steel vault door slowly hissed and began to swing open.
Julian raised his rifle expecting to see Arthur's elite guards waiting for them inside.
Instead the chamber was completely empty except for two massive glass cylinders glowing with blue liquid.
Victoria dropped her crowbar and ran toward the freezing glass tubes.
She pressed her hands against the cold surface and stared at the two sleeping figures inside.
Before she could process the overwhelming emotion the vault door slammed shut behind them with a deafening crash.

Arthur's voice echoed through the intercom system laughing at their predictable foolishness.
He cheerfully announced that the vault was rapidly filling with deadly neurotoxin gas.
