Chapter 7 - The Enemy of My Enemy

The blinding headlights of the SUVs trapped the rusted van in a circle of harsh white light.
Victoria panicked and desperately tried to restart the stalled engine.
The engine sputtered and died with a pathetic clicking sound.
Arthur signaled his heavily armed men to slowly advance on the vehicle.
Julian fought through the agonizing pain in his side and pulled his sidearm from its holster.
He knew he only had six bullets left to fight off a dozen trained killers.
He looked at Victoria and told her to run into the maze of scrapped cars when the shooting started.
Victoria adamantly shook her head and wrapped both of her hands firmly around his gun.
She declared that they were going to survive this nightmare together or not at all.
Suddenly a massive explosion ripped through the lead SUV sending it flipping into the air.
A barrage of heavy machine-gun fire rained down on Arthur's men from the shadows of the junkyard.
A sleek black armored truck crashed through the scrap metal and slammed on its brakes next to the van.
The heavy steel door swung open to reveal an older woman with a jagged scar across her face.
She yelled at Julian and Victoria to get inside before Arthur's reinforcements arrived.
Julian did not recognize the woman but they had absolutely no other choice.
They abandoned the van and threw themselves into the back of the armored truck.
The truck peeled out of the junkyard leaving Arthur screaming in fury amidst the burning wreckage.
The mysterious woman handed Victoria a first-aid kit and ordered her to patch Julian up.
Julian pressed a thick gauze pad to his wound and demanded to know who their savior was.
The woman smiled grimly and said she was the original director of the St. Jude orphanage.
She confessed that she was the one who sold Elena to Arthur Sterling fifteen years ago.
She explained that Arthur had recently tried to assassinate her to tie up loose ends.
The former director looked Julian directly in the eyes with a terrifyingly calm expression.

She revealed that the vault did not contain a digital ledger at all.
She stated that the vault contained the actual biological parents of Victoria Sterling who were still alive.
