Chapter 7 - The Ghost Sister

Norah hadn't spoken to Lily in three years, completely cutting contact to keep her safe.
The realization that Vance had found her sister made Norah physically sick.
Sebastian kicked Vance's unconscious body, securing the corrupt cop with the same zip ties used on Dale.
He saw the absolute terror in Norah's eyes and knew they were running out of time.
Sebastian told Dale to take Hal's truck and drive to a hospital two towns over.
Once the old man was safely away, Sebastian turned to Norah and promised to help her get Lily back.
He explained that his syndicate had a fortified safehouse thirty miles south, stocked with enough weapons to start a small war.
They left Vance tied to the diner floor and sped off into the night in Sebastian's armored car.
Norah spent the drive staring out the window, praying Lily was still alive.
They arrived at an abandoned warehouse district just as the rain began to clear.
Sebastian pulled into a hidden underground garage, typing a complex code into a reinforced steel door.
The door slid open, revealing a high-tech command center filled with monitors and tactical gear.
A tall, broad-shouldered man in a tactical vest walked out to greet them.
Sebastian introduced the man as Marcus, his most trusted right-hand lieutenant.
Marcus offered Norah a polite nod, asking Sebastian if the Moretti family had caused the trouble at the diner.
Norah froze, the color draining from her face as she heard the man speak.
It wasn't his face she recognized, but the deep, gravelly cadence of his voice.
Three years ago, as a dispatcher, she had listened to a secret phone call coordinating the hit that started this entire nightmare.

The voice on that old recording giving orders to Detective Vance hadn't belonged to a Moretti boss.
It belonged to Marcus.
