Chapter 8 - The Fallen Sister

I screamed and pulled the twins behind me, fully expecting Vincenzo's heavily armed soldiers to flood the room.
But the person standing in the doorway was not a soldier.
It was Vanessa.
She was covered in bruises, breathing heavily, and holding a stolen assault rifle.
She dropped the gun and fell to her knees, sobbing violently as I rushed to hug her.
She explained that she had managed to escape Vincenzo's warehouse during the chaos of the safe house explosion.
She had tracked the GPS signal on the coin, hoping to reach us before Vincenzo did.
Vanessa looked at Luca and apologized for ruining his marriage, swearing she only did it to save my life.
Luca simply nodded, holding no anger for the woman who had protected his family.
Vanessa wiped her tears and told us she had stolen a decrypted hard drive from Vincenzo's office before she fled.
The drive contained absolute proof that Vincenzo had ordered the assassination of the rival cartel leaders.
If the other crime families saw this proof, they would tear Vincenzo's empire apart tonight.
We just needed a secure computer terminal to upload the files to the dark web.
Luca said the only terminal secure enough was located inside the downtown syndicate bank.
We stole an old truck parked near the cabin and drove straight into the heart of Chicago.
We managed to slip past the bank's night security using Luca's old access codes.
We reached the main server room, and Vanessa quickly began uploading the massive files.
The progress bar slowly crept toward ninety percent.
Then, the power to the entire building was suddenly cut off.
Emergency red lights flooded the server room as the steel doors locked automatically from the outside.

A chilling voice echoed through the intercom system.
Vincenzo laughed softly and thanked Vanessa for bringing his runaway family directly to him.
