Chapter 5 - The Devil's Game

The video feed showed Vincenzo walking slowly into the frame.
He looked directly into the camera and smiled a chilling, evil smile.
He told Luca that a true mafia king does not let a woman weaken his empire.
Vincenzo demanded that Luca bring me and the twins to an abandoned warehouse in Chicago by midnight.
If we did not show up, Vanessa would be executed on a live broadcast.
The screen went black, leaving us in a suffocating silence.
Luca slammed on the brakes, pulling the car onto the shoulder of the empty mountain road.
He told me he would go alone and kill his father with his bare hands.
I refused to let him walk into a suicide mission without a plan.
I reminded him that Vanessa sacrificed everything to save my life, and I owed it to her to fight back.
Luca looked at my fierce expression and finally saw the strong woman I had become.
He dialed a secure number to contact his most trusted lieutenant, a man named Dante.
Dante promised to meet us at a safe house near the Chicago border with weapons and loyal men.
We drove for ten exhausting hours, the twins sleeping peacefully in the back seat.
When we arrived at the safe house, Dante was waiting by the front door.
He ushered us inside, locking the heavy steel doors behind us.
Luca asked Dante where the loyal soldiers were.
Dante did not answer immediately.

Instead, he pulled a suppressed pistol from his jacket and aimed it directly at my head.
Dante smiled sadly and said Vincenzo simply paid a much higher price for loyalty.
