Chapter 10 - The Last Sunset

Luca collapsed onto the cold marble floor, coughing up dark blood.
I screamed his name, dropping to my knees and pressing my hands desperately against his fatal wound.
The syndicate captains watched in absolute horror as Vincenzo shot his own unarmed son.
That singular act of pure evil finally broke the blind loyalty of the mafia soldiers.
The lead captain raised his assault rifle and fired a short, precise burst into Vincenzo's chest.
The cruel tyrant fell dead to the floor, his reign of terror completely finished.
I held Luca as the paramedics finally arrived, praying to a God I hadn't spoken to in years.
Three months later, the violent nightmare felt like a distant, fading memory.
Luca had miraculously survived the surgery and completely officially disbanded his father's criminal empire.
We moved to a beautiful, quiet beach house on the sunny coast of California.
Lena and Ash were currently building a sandcastle while Luca watched them with a soft, loving smile.
Our family was finally safe, and the dark past could no longer hurt us.
We had survived the absolute worst and found our way back to true happiness.
But as I opened the wooden mailbox that afternoon, my blood ran completely cold.
Inside was a thick black envelope containing a fresh photograph of Dante, the traitorous bodyguard who was supposed to be dead.

A handwritten note attached to it said Vincenzo was only the middleman for a much larger organization.
They are coming for the twins tonight.
