Chapter 5 - The Golden Boy's Revenge

The peaceful atmosphere in the hospital room shattered instantly.

"How could Grant possibly make bail so quickly?" I asked, gripping Noah a little tighter.

"The federal authorities just arrested him an hour ago," I pointed out frantically.

Elias quickly began typing a secure message to his private security team.

"Someone very powerful with deep pockets just guaranteed his bond," Elias said grimly.

"The five million in untraceable cash means he is planning to run," he added.

"Or he is planning to pay for a very expensive hit before he disappears," Elias warned, looking directly at me.

A cold shiver ran completely down my spine at the horrifying thought.

Grant had always been incredibly vindictive, but losing the company would drive him totally insane.

"He knows you are the reason the entire empire collapsed," Elias said softly.

"We need to move you to a secure location immediately," he decided with absolute authority.

Within ten minutes, the hospital room was flooded with Elias's heavily armed private security detail.

They formed a tight, protective circle around my bed and the baby bassinet.

"We are taking the private underground elevator to the armored SUV," the head of security barked out orders.

I was quickly placed in a wheelchair while Elias carefully held Noah against his broad chest.

We moved rapidly through the sterile hospital corridors, avoiding all public areas.

When we reached the underground parking garage, a fleet of black, bulletproof vehicles was waiting.

Elias buckled Noah securely into a specialized, armored car seat in the back of the lead SUV.

He climbed in beside me and wrapped his arm tightly around my shoulders as the convoy sped out into the city.

"Where are we going?" I asked, watching the dark city streets blur past the tinted windows.

"We are heading to my remote estate in the mountains," Elias assured me quietly.

"It is heavily fortified, and Grant does not even know it exists," he promised.

The drive was incredibly tense, but Noah slept peacefully through the entire chaotic journey.

We finally arrived at a massive, modern fortress hidden deep within a thick pine forest.

High steel walls and sophisticated security cameras surrounded the entire property.

I finally allowed myself to exhale a deep breath of relief as we drove through the heavy iron gates.

We carried Noah inside and settled him into a beautiful, fully stocked nursery that Elias had prepared months ago.

I stood by the crib, watching my son breathe softly, feeling completely safe for the first time all day.

Elias walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder.

"Nobody will ever hurt our family, Chloe," Elias whispered into my hair.

"I have men actively tracking Grant's phone right now, he will not get far," he assured me.

Suddenly, the massive glass windows of the nursery rattled violently.

A deafening explosion echoed from the front gates of the estate, shaking the entire house.

Elias immediately pushed me to the floor and threw his body over mine to shield us from the impact.

The security alarms began blaring wildly throughout the mansion.

"They breached the main gate!" a guard shouted through Elias's radio earpiece.

Elias grabbed a heavy handgun from a hidden wall safe and looked at me with terrifying intensity.

"Lock the nursery door and do not come out, no matter what you hear," Elias commanded firmly.

Before I could argue, the radio crackled violently again with a terrified voice.

"Sir, it is not Grant Mercer attacking the gate," the panicked guard reported.

"It is a heavily armed tactical team wearing federal DEA windbreakers."
