Chapter 8 - The Desperate Escape

Sophie bravely scrambled up the filthy, dusty metal chute like a highly trained little soldier fighting for her life.
Arthur quickly and desperately pulled his own heavy body up into the narrow metal shaft right behind her.
The massive basement directly behind them was now completely consumed by roaring, uncontrollable orange flames.
He could clearly hear Vanessa screaming his name in absolute agony as the burning roof finally collapsed directly on top of her.
Arthur violently kicked the exterior iron grate with the heavy bottom of his expensive leather boots over and over again.
The completely rusted metal padlock eventually shattered into pieces and the heavy iron grate finally popped open to the outside world.
They painfully tumbled out of the metal chute and violently crashed onto the freezing wet grass of their massive backyard.
Freezing, ice-cold rain furiously poured down from the pitch-black midnight sky in absolutely blinding, heavy sheets.
The fresh, freezing night air instantly filled their painfully burning lungs with sweet, absolute relief.
Arthur quickly looked back and saw his beautiful, expensive mansion glowing intensely like a giant, terrifying bonfire.
Massive flames angrily shot fifty feet into the dark, stormy sky from the completely shattered glass windows.
"We actually did it, Daddy."
Sophie squeezed his large hand incredibly tightly while shivering uncontrollably in the freezing, relentless rain.
"We are finally safe from the bad ladies now."
Arthur quickly picked her up into his arms and immediately started running desperately toward the front security gate.
They urgently needed to reach the main public road to desperately flag down a passing police car or civilian vehicle.
The massive, heavy steel security gates were locked incredibly tightly with a thick, unbreakable iron chain.
Arthur angrily realized the intelligent smart house system was still actively keeping the entire perimeter completely sealed off.
He gently set Sophie down safely near the brick security wall and quickly grabbed a massive, heavy landscaping rock.
He violently began smashing the heavy rock repeatedly against the delicate electronic security keypad.
The cheap plastic casing shattered instantly but the heavy iron gates absolutely did not budge an inch.
A blindingly bright security spotlight suddenly turned on from the tall brick tower directly above their heads.
The painfully bright beam violently pinned them aggressively against the freezing, wet brick wall like trapped animals.
A tall figure stepped slowly out of the dark shadows while carefully holding a long, heavy hunting rifle.
It was a woman wearing a bright yellow raincoat and a very familiar, unique silver diamond locket.

Claire perfectly aimed the heavy hunting rifle directly at the absolute center of Arthur's forehead.
"Hello there, dear husband."
