Chapter 10 - The False King

Dr. Evans looked up with terrified, swollen eyes as Dominic aimed the pistol at his forehead.

The surgeon begged for his life, swearing he had only done what he was forced to do.

Dominic demanded to know why a wealthy, respected doctor would participate in a mafia assassination attempt.

Dr. Evans wept openly, blood dripping from his split lip onto his torn surgical scrubs.

He confessed that the car accident six months ago was not an accident at all, but a deliberate hit.

The doctor admitted he was paid a massive fortune to intentionally sever Dominic’s spinal nerves during the emergency surgery.

Dominic’s hand trembled violently, the horrific truth tearing apart the last shreds of his sanity.

His entire paralysis, his misery, and his loss of power were completely manufactured by the man sitting in front of him.

Dominic asked the doctor who had paid him to ruin his life.

Before the doctor could answer, a single gunshot rang out in the small concrete room.

Dr. Evans’s head snapped back, and he slumped forward in the chair, completely dead.

Dominic spun his wheelchair around furiously, looking for the shooter.

Standing in the doorway, holding a smoking gun, was Dominic’s older brother, Julian.

Julian had been presumed dead in a yacht explosion three years ago, a tragedy that had broken the Corso family.

Yet here he stood, perfectly healthy, wearing a tailored suit and a cold, arrogant smile.

Julian casually stepped over the doctor's body and told Dominic that it was time for the younger brother to give back the throne.

He explained that he had faked his own death to escape federal charges, leaving Dominic to run the empire while he hid in Europe.

But when Dominic became too powerful and too independent, Julian decided it was time to cripple him and take the city back.

Dominic stared at his resurrected brother in absolute horror, realizing his entire life was a lie orchestrated by his own blood.

Julian raised his gun, pointing it directly at Dominic’s chest, ready to finish the job the doctor had started.

Suddenly, Fay stepped out from the shadows and pressed the cold barrel of a gun firmly against the back of Julian’s head.

She ordered Julian to drop his weapon, her voice completely steady and entirely devoid of fear.

Julian laughed, mocking the brave little maid, but he slowly dropped his gun onto the concrete floor.

Dominic’s loyal men flooded into the room, quickly restraining Julian and dragging the traitorous brother away to the holding cells.

Dominic let out a massive breath, looking up at Fay with absolute adoration and complete trust.

He reached for her hand, pulling her down for a passionate kiss, promising her that they were finally safe and the war was over.

He told her she would never have to run again, and she would rule the city by his side as his queen.

Later that night, Fay stood alone in the luxurious bathroom of the master suite, staring at her reflection in the mirror.

She turned on the faucet to muffle the sound, reached into her pocket, and pulled out a cheap, encrypted burner phone.

She dialed a specific international number and waited for the heavy, raspy voice on the other end to answer.

Fay smiled coldly at her reflection and whispered into the receiver.

"Julian took the fall, and Dominic trusts me completely with his life," she said. "He still has absolutely no idea you are alive, Uncle Silvio, so tell me when you want me to poison him for real."
