Chapter 4 - The Debt

Vincent did not look surprised or angry that she had found his secret files.
He slowly closed the heavy office doors behind him and locked them.
"Put the file down, Fay," he said softly, taking a sip of his scotch.
Fay clutched the papers tighter to her chest, refusing to back down.
"You paid for the experimental treatments," she stated, tears of confusion welling in her eyes.
"I did," Vincent admitted, walking toward his massive desk.
"But why?" Fay begged, desperate for an answer that made sense.
"You didn't even know I existed until three days ago."
Vincent set his glass down and looked at her with an expression of profound sorrow.
"I have known you existed for exactly three years, Fay," he confessed quietly.
Before he could explain further, a deafening explosion rattled the foundation of the estate.
The antique windows of the study shattered inward, spraying deadly shards of glass across the room.
Fay screamed as the shockwave threw her backward onto the floor.
Blaring security alarms instantly began shrieking through the hallways.
The chaotic, terrifying sound of automatic gunfire erupted from the lower levels of the mansion.
Vincent moved with terrifying speed, drawing a heavy black pistol from his shoulder holster.
He lunged across the room, grabbed Fay by the arm, and shoved her forcefully behind the solid oak desk.
"Keep your head down and do not move," Vincent roared over the sound of the alarms.
Heavy boots pounded against the hardwood floors in the hallway outside.
The locked office doors were violently kicked open, splintering the expensive wood into pieces.
A heavily armed man in tactical gear stepped into the room, raising an assault rifle.

Fay peered around the edge of the desk and gasped in absolute horror.
The man leading the hit squad was Marcus, the head of Vincent’s own security detail.
