Chapter 8 - The Queen's Gambit

Robert collapsed to the polished floor, blood pooling around his designer shoes.

Vance and the armed guards froze, completely unsure of who was signing their paychecks now.

"My husband was a greedy, sloppy fool," Diana announced, stepping over Robert's gasping body.

"He embezzled millions, but he left a trail of bodies that threatened to ruin the company."

She turned the gun and aimed it directly at Daniel's forehead.

"I am taking control of Whitfield Logistics tonight," Diana declared triumphantly.

"Give me the drive, Daniel, and I will let the police believe Robert acted entirely alone."

Daniel stared at his sister-in-law, realizing she was far more dangerous than Robert ever was.

"You knew about Marcus the entire time," Grace realized, her voice trembling with disgust.

"Of course I did, you pathetic little maid," Diana sneered, glancing at Grace with pure contempt.

"Now hand over the evidence, or you all die right here."

Daniel looked at the flashing control panel on the wall behind Diana.

He slowly raised the data drive in the air, pretending to surrender.

"You win, Diana," Daniel said, taking a slow step forward.

He intentionally tripped over a loose server cable, tossing the drive into the air.

Diana instinctively looked up to catch the valuable item.

Daniel slammed his palm violently against the red emergency suppression button on the wall.

A deafening alarm blared, and the ceiling vents immediately blasted thick, blinding halon gas into the room.
