Chapter 7 - The Snake in the Tower

The server room was instantly bathed in flashing red emergency lights.

"The badge swipe triggered a silent lockdown," Daniel cursed, pounding his fist against the steel shutter.

The download finished, and Daniel yanked the drive from the console.

The intercom on the wall crackled to life with a sharp hiss of static.

"You always were predictable, Daniel," Robert's arrogant voice echoed through the room.

"I knew you would risk everything to play the hero and clear your name."

The steel shutter slowly ground upward, revealing Robert standing with Vance and a dozen armed men.

Robert smiled and extended his hand, expecting Daniel to surrender the drive.

"Hand over the ledger, Daniel, and I promise the child will not suffer," Robert lied smoothly.

Daniel pushed Grace and Maya behind him, gripping the drive tightly in his fist.

"You will have to kill me first, Robert," Daniel growled, stepping forward.

Vance raised his weapon, preparing to execute Daniel right there in the server room.

"Put the gun down, Vance," a sharp, feminine voice commanded from the hallway.

Everyone turned to see Diana Whitfield stepping out of the VIP elevator.

She was wearing a stunning red evening gown, completely out of place in the sterile server room.

Diana walked confidently through the armed guards, holding a small, silver pistol.

"Diana, what are you doing here?" Robert demanded, lowering his hand.

"I am securing my future, darling," Diana replied with a cold, terrifying smile.

She turned the silver pistol and aimed it directly at her husband's chest.

Before anyone could react, Diana pulled the trigger three times.
