Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Milk
The revelation of a traitor inside the mansion sent a shockwave of paranoia through Lorenzo's mind. He immediately ordered a complete lockdown of the estate and a full audit of the security logs. Hunter finished wrapping his shoulder, her mind racing with terrifying possibilities. "Who would want to murder an innocent baby?" Hunter asked, her voice trembling slightly. Lorenzo stared darkly at the wall, his jaw clenched in absolute fury. "In my world, an heir is the greatest threat to a rival family's future," Lorenzo explained softly. He walked over to the secure chair and gently stroked Leo's sleeping head. "We need to get him back to the nursery to check his vitals on the main machines." They cautiously made their way back up to the third floor, flanked by heavily armed guards. The nursery had been secured, and the shattered glass had been swept into a corner. Hunter picked up the baby and prepared to feed him again, noticing he felt a bit feverish. She went to the small medical refrigerator to grab a bottle of the breastmilk she had pumped earlier. As she held the bottle up to the light, she noticed a strange, cloudy separation in the liquid. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized the seal on the storage bag had been tampered with. "Lorenzo, do not let him drink this," Hunter shouted in a sudden panic. Lorenzo rushed over, his eyes narrowing as he inspected the tainted milk. "Someone has injected something into the supply," Lorenzo stated, his voice devoid of all warmth. He immediately summoned his security chief to review the hidden camera footage from the nursery. They watched the grainy black-and-white video on a secure tablet. The footage showed a man in a white medical coat slipping into the room during the chaos of the attack. The man quickly injected a clear syringe into the stored milk bags before fleeing down the back stairs. Lorenzo paused the video and zoomed in on the traitor's face. It was Dr. Julian Halloran, the arrogant neonatologist who had claimed Leo was dying of natural causes. The doctor had been secretly poisoning the baby for weeks under the guise of medical treatment. When Leo started recovering thanks to Hunter, the doctor tried to poison the new milk supply. Lorenzo crushed the tablet in his bare hands, his eyes burning with a murderous rage. "Find that doctor and bring him to the basement alive," Lorenzo commanded his men. Before the guards could leave, Hunter let out a terrified, blood-curdling scream from the corner of the room. Lorenzo spun around and saw Leo convulsing violently in her arms. The baby had ingested a small amount of the poisoned milk during the previous feeding.
