Chapter 10 - The Price of Peace

Hunter screamed with the fierce, primal strength of a mother protecting her young. She violently twisted her body, breaking free from Carlo's grip and leaving a handful of her hair behind. She lunged forward over the stone railing, catching Leo by his swaddle just before he plummeted into the dark ocean. Her ribs slammed hard against the balustrade, knocking the wind completely out of her lungs. Lorenzo did not waste a single millisecond of the distraction. He drew a hidden throwing knife from his sleeve and hurled it with lethal, perfect precision. The heavy blade buried itself deep into Carlo's throat, silencing his wicked laughter forever. The treacherous uncle choked on his own blood and collapsed backward over the railing, falling into the freezing waves below. Lorenzo sprinted to the balcony and grabbed Hunter's waist, pulling her and the baby back to safety. They collapsed onto the floor of the bedroom, holding each other in a desperate, unbreakable embrace. The nightmare was finally over, and the traitorous poison had been completely removed from the family. Months passed, and the Rossi estate was restored to its former glory, but this time, it was filled with warmth. Lorenzo officially stepped down from the violent underground operations, turning the business into a legitimate real estate empire. He married Hunter in a beautiful, private ceremony in the mansion's restored gardens. Leo grew into a healthy, strong, and incredibly happy little boy who adored his new mother. Hunter finally had the beautiful family she had always dreamed of, and Lily's memory lived on in their hearts. They stood together on the balcony, watching the peaceful sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Life was perfectly serene, beautifully quiet, and absolutely safe. The next morning, Lorenzo walked into his private study to find a plain white envelope resting on his desk. He opened it carefully, finding a recent, high-resolution photograph of a woman walking down a street in Paris. The woman in the picture was undeniably Sophia, looking perfectly healthy and holding the hand of a dark-haired toddler. A typed note on the back of the photo read, "Did you really think the car bomb was meant for me, Lorenzo?" The shadow of the past had just returned to destroy their perfect future.
