Chapter 10 - The New Empire

The gunshot echoed sharply, but my mother did not fall.

Instead, she screamed in agony as the pistol was shot right out of her hand.

One of Dante’s elite snipers had disabled her from the hovering helicopter.

Loyal guards quickly swarmed my mother, tackling her to the muddy ground and binding her in heavy iron chains.

Paramedics rushed toward Dante, loading his unconscious body onto an emergency stretcher.

I held Leo tightly, sobbing into his damp hair as the nightmare finally ended.

Six months later, the Boston skyline looked incredibly beautiful from the penthouse balcony.

Dante walked out through the glass doors, looking perfectly healthy in a crisp, tailored suit.

His chest scar was a permanent reminder of the night he had sacrificed everything for us.

My mother was locked away in a maximum-security federal prison, facing life without parole.

Dante wrapped his strong arms around my waist from behind, pressing a warm kiss to my neck.

Leo was happily babbling in the living room, surrounded by a mountain of new toys.

We had built a real, loving family together, entirely free from the violence of the past.

The syndicate was completely legitimate now, and we finally had absolute peace.

Everything was perfectly settled.

Suddenly, a loud, sharp knock echoed from the heavy mahogany front doors.

A small, unmarked wooden box was sitting completely alone on our front porch.

Inside the box rested a severed finger wearing a platinum dragon ring.

A handwritten note beneath it read that my real father, the head of the global Commission, wanted his rightful heirs returned immediately.
