Chapter 9 - The Interrogation
Maya sat on the freezing concrete floor of the holding cell for hours.
She could hear distant gunfire echoing through the ceiling as the cartel attacked the estate.
Her mind raced frantically as she tried to figure out who had planted the listening device.
The styling team had dressed her but the jewelry had been delivered separately in a velvet box.
She remembered the head nurse from the medical wing handing the box to the stylists.
The head nurse was a quiet woman who always wore a surgical mask and avoided eye contact.
Maya realized the nurse had unlimited access to Sophie and the entire estate.
She stood up and wrapped her hands around the thick iron bars of the cell.
She noticed the locking mechanism on the door was an old mechanical tumbler system.
Maya reached into her ruined hair and pulled out a heavy metal bobby pin.
She had learned how to pick simple locks during her childhood in the slums of Naples.
Her hands were shaking but she forced herself to focus entirely on the metallic clicks.
After ten agonizing minutes the heavy iron door finally swung open with a loud creak.
She grabbed a heavy metal pipe from the bunker wall and crept silently back toward the tunnel.
She climbed the emergency ladder that led directly into the medical wing of the estate.
The hospital corridors were completely dark and deserted due to the lockdown.
She practically sprinted toward Sophie's private recovery suite.
Maya pushed the door open and saw the head nurse standing over the hospital bed.
The nurse was holding a syringe filled with a strange cloudy liquid directly over Sophie's IV line.
Maya did not hesitate or announce her presence.
She swung the heavy metal pipe and struck the nurse violently across the back of the knees.
The nurse screamed and dropped the syringe onto the sterilized floor.
Maya jumped on top of the woman and pinned her forcefully to the ground.
She ripped the surgical mask off the woman's face.
May you like
The nurse laughed bloodily and said the Falcone family sent their absolute best regards.
Maya raised the metal pipe to strike her again but the suite door was suddenly kicked open.
