Chapter 7 - The Bloody Contract
Maya stared at the hooded figure kneeling on the expensive rug.
Her hands were shaking so badly that the heavy pistol felt like it weighed a hundred pounds.
Dominic stood perfectly still and watched her with dark unblinking eyes.
He told her this was the only way to ensure her sister would never be threatened again.
Maya took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
She pulled the trigger.
The gunshot was deafening in the small enclosed study.
The hooded figure slumped forward onto the floor completely motionless.
Maya dropped the gun and fell to her knees while sobbing uncontrollably.
Dominic walked over and gently pulled the black hood off the dead man.
Maya opened her eyes and gasped in pure shock.
It was not her father.
It was the estate guard who had accepted the bribe to plant the explosive in the medical wing.
Dominic knelt beside her and gently wiped the tears from her face.
He explained that he would never force her to kill her own blood.
He said her father was currently locked in the basement waiting to be dealt with by the enforcers.
He pulled Maya against his chest and told her she had passed the ultimate test of loyalty.
The moment of comfort was violently interrupted by a massive explosion outside the window.
The Neapolitan cartel had not come to negotiate a peace treaty.
They had planted a car bomb in the courtyard to assassinate Dominic's top lieutenants.
Alarms blared across the estate as heavy gunfire erupted from the perimeter walls.
Dominic grabbed Maya by the hand and pulled her toward the secret panic room behind the bookshelf.
Bullets shattered the glass windows and tore through the expensive furniture.
The scarred enforcer kicked the study door open and yelled that they were completely surrounded.
Dominic handed the enforcer an assault rifle and shoved Maya into the dark passageway.
He promised he would be right behind her.
As Maya stumbled into the darkness the study door was blown completely off its hinges.
May you like
Three cartel assassins rushed into the room firing wildly into the shadows.
Maya screamed as she saw Dominic take a bullet directly to the shoulder and collapse to the floor.
