Chapter 8 - The Hidden Enemy
The scarred enforcer roared in anger and unleashed a barrage of shotgun fire into the assassins.
He grabbed Dominic by the collar of his ruined shirt and dragged him into the hidden passageway.
The enforcer slammed the heavy steel door shut and locked it from the inside.
Maya crawled through the pitch black tunnel until they reached the underground bunker.
The room was lit by emergency red lights and smelled heavily of damp concrete.
Dominic was bleeding profusely from the gunshot wound in his upper shoulder.
Maya ripped the heavy silk fabric of her emerald gown to create a makeshift bandage.
She pressed the silk tightly against his bleeding wound and told him to stay awake.
Dominic gritted his teeth and actually smiled at her despite the immense pain.
He whispered that she looked incredibly beautiful when she was trying to save his life.
The intense chemistry between them was undeniable even in the middle of a warzone.
The enforcer began sweeping the bunker with a handheld frequency scanner to check for bugs.
The scanner suddenly began beeping violently as he walked past Maya.
The enforcer stopped and glared at her with absolute suspicion.
He reached out and forcefully ripped the diamond necklace from her throat.
He smashed the largest diamond beneath his heavy combat boot.
A tiny flashing microphone was hidden perfectly inside the crushed jewel.
The enforcer raised his shotgun and aimed it directly at Maya's chest.
He told Dominic that the girl had been wearing a wiretap this entire time.
Maya stepped backward and swore she had absolutely no idea the bug was in the necklace.
She pleaded with Dominic to believe her because the stylists had put the jewelry on her.
Dominic's expression grew dangerously cold as he stared at the flashing device on the floor.
He looked at Maya as if she was a complete stranger who had just stabbed him in the back.
He told the enforcer to lock her in the holding cell at the end of the bunker.
Maya screamed and fought but the enforcer was far too strong for her.
