Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Cross laughed mockingly, the sound echoing loudly over the howling wind of the storm.

"I must admit, my beautiful wife has learned a few new tricks," Cross sneered.

Gabriel stepped forward, his hands raised in a desperate gesture of surrender.

"Let her go, Damian, you can kill me, just give the baby the antidote," Gabriel pleaded.

Cross smiled, shaking his head with a look of pure, sadistic joy.

He kicked a loaded silver revolver across the marble floor toward Claire.

"Pick up the gun, Elena, and shoot your new lover right between the eyes," Cross demanded.

He promised that if she killed Gabriel, he would hand over the antidote and let her walk away.

If she refused, he would drop the fragile glass vial into the endless abyss below.

Gabriel looked deep into Claire's eyes, offering her a silent, tearful nod.

He was silently begging her to sacrifice his life to save his innocent nephew.

Claire fell to her knees, picking up the heavy weapon with violently trembling hands.

She aimed the barrel directly at Gabriel's chest, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.

"I am so sorry, Gabriel, I love you," she whispered brokenly.

Gabriel closed his eyes, completely at peace with his decision to die for his family.

Claire pulled the trigger without any further hesitation.

The gunshot deafened the room, and Gabriel collapsed backward onto the cold marble floor in a pool of dark blood.
