Chapter 3 - The Lethal Toxin

Mason dropped the gun and slumped lifelessly against the steering wheel.
Gabriel stared at the bloody knife, completely stunned by her ruthless, silent speed.
"Help me push his body out of the car," Claire ordered without a single ounce of emotion.
They shoved the traitor out into the rain and Gabriel climbed into the driver’s seat.
He slammed his foot on the gas pedal, tearing out of the alleyway at breakneck speed.
Eli suddenly began to cry in the backseat, his tiny voice sounding incredibly weak.
Claire gently unzipped the baby’s jacket to check him for any injuries.
She gasped loudly, her professional composure finally breaking into pure panic.
"Gabriel, pull the car over right now," she pleaded frantically.
Gabriel swerved into a deserted parking lot and jumped into the backseat.
Claire pointed a trembling finger at a tiny, bruised puncture mark on Eli’s heel.
The infant's skin was burning with an unnatural, terrifying fever.
Gabriel’s cell phone suddenly vibrated in his soaked suit pocket.
He answered the call, hearing the sinister, mocking laughter of Damian Cross on the other end.
"I see you found my little parting gift," Cross said smoothly over the phone.
"What did you do to my nephew?" Gabriel roared, his voice shaking with murderous rage.
"I injected him with a synthetic neurotoxin," Cross explained happily.
"It will stop his little heart in exactly six hours if he does not receive the antidote."
Gabriel crushed the phone in his hand, throwing the broken pieces out into the storm.

He looked at Claire, his eyes begging her for a miracle.
"I know a shadow doctor in the slums who can buy us some time," Claire whispered urgently.
