Chapter 20 - The Unbreakable Vow

The private ceremony was held in the expansive, breathtaking gardens of our secure mountain estate.
We did not invite a massive crowd of dangerous associates or corporate politicians.
The only people in attendance were Leo, who looked incredibly sharp in a small tuxedo, and a few of Owen’s most fiercely loyal, trusted guards.
The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the vibrant flowers and the towering, ancient oak trees.
I walked down the small stone path wearing a simple, incredibly elegant white silk dress, entirely free of any extravagant jewels or heavy veils.
Owen stood at the altar, absolutely taking my breath away as he watched me approach with tears of pure joy glistening in his dark eyes.
He gently took my hands in his, his large, scarred thumbs softly caressing my knuckles.
We did not recite traditional, poetic vows written by strangers.
We spoke directly from our souls, acknowledging the incredible, violent darkness we had survived to finally reach this perfect light.
"You saved my life when I was entirely trapped in my own mind, Clara," Owen promised, his voice incredibly steady and deeply emotional.
"I will spend every single second of the rest of my life completely protecting yours."
I looked deeply into his eyes, entirely recognizing the fierce, unyielding devotion that burned entirely for me.
"You forgave my darkest secret and gave my family an incredible future," I vowed, a happy tear slipping slowly down my cheek.
"I am completely yours, in the shadows and in the light, forever."
The officiant pronounced us husband and wife, and Owen pulled me into a deep, incredibly passionate kiss that completely sealed our beautiful fate.
Leo cheered loudly from the front row, his joyful laughter echoing perfectly across the peaceful, sunlit mountains.
Later that evening, we stood together on the massive wraparound porch, drinking rich champagne as the stars slowly appeared in the clear night sky.
I leaned my head against his solid chest, listening to the strong, steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
We had absolutely nothing left to fear, and completely nothing left to hide.

The terrifying game of survival was officially over, and we had finally, completely won the ultimate prize.
Our beautifully chaotic, incredible story was finally at perfect, unbroken peace.
