Chapter 18 - The Final Choice

The terrifying sound of Russo suffocating filled the damp tunnel, his desperate struggles growing remarkably weaker by the second.
I watched the violent execution unfolding before my eyes, completely realizing that this was the brutal, unforgiving reality of Owen's world.
If I chose to stay with him, I would forever be a part of this dark, lethal empire.
I slowly lowered my pistol, completely accepting the violent truth without a single ounce of regret or hesitation.
I walked closer, standing directly beside Owen as he held the dying rival boss against the cold brick wall.
"Let him go," I said softly, placing my hand gently over Owen's massive, tensed bicep.
Owen slightly loosened his crushing grip, completely surprised by my sudden intervention.
Russo slumped heavily against the wall, coughing violently and gasping frantically for sweet, lifesaving oxygen.
"You want me to spare him after everything he has done to you?" Owen asked, his voice thick with protective fury.
I looked down at Russo, who was pathetic and broken, completely stripped of all his arrogant power.
"No," I replied, my voice completely cold and entirely steady.
"I want him to spend the rest of his life knowing that he was completely defeated by a hospital cleaner."
I looked Russo dead in the eyes, ensuring he saw absolutely nothing but fierce, unyielding dominance in my gaze.
"If you ever come near my brother, my husband, or this city again, I will personally ensure you die much slower than this."
Russo stared at me in absolute, mind-numbing terror, finally realizing that I was no longer a scared, vulnerable victim.
I had fully embraced the immense power of the empire I now completely belonged to.
Owen smiled, a dark, incredibly proud smirk spreading across his handsome face.
He violently drove his knee upward into Russo's chest, cracking several ribs and dropping the rival boss entirely into the dirt.
"My cleanup crew will secure him in the subterranean holding cells at the shipyard," Owen declared, wrapping his arm securely around my waist.
"He will never see the light of day again."

We turned our backs on the broken, weeping man and walked together out of the dark catacombs, entirely leaving the shadows behind.
The violent storm outside had finally broken, leaving the night sky incredibly clear and filled with brilliant stars.
