Chapter 4 - The Infiltration

The Valerius Tower was heavily fortified, but Julian had designed the sub-basement security protocols himself.
At 2:00 AM, dressed in black tactical gear Elara had procured, they slipped through an abandoned subway maintenance tunnel that connected directly to the tower’s subterranean parking garage.
"The physical servers are on the 60th floor," Julian whispered, bypassing a laser grid with a mirrored prism. "They contain the offshore routing numbers proving Marcus hired the hitman to kill your mother, and the illegal contracts he signed with Thorne."
Elara nodded, her face grim. "If we get those ledgers to the SEC, Marcus goes away for life."
They scaled the emergency stairwell, their breathing echoing in the hollow concrete shaft. When they reached the 60th floor, Julian hot-wired the electronic lock on the server room door.
The room was freezing, bathed in the hum of massive, glowing blue servers.
Julian plugged a decrypted flash drive into the main terminal. His fingers flew across the keyboard. "Downloading the hidden ledgers. Two minutes."
Suddenly, the blue lights in the server room snapped off. The heavy steel door behind them locked with a terrifying, magnetic CLANG.
The room was flooded with blinding red emergency lights.

A voice crackled over the intercom. It was Silas Thorne.
"Julian, Julian, Julian," Silas’s voice dripped with condescension. "Did you really think Marcus wouldn't change the passwords after he fired you? You just triggered the silent alarm. You and the bastard princess are trapped."
