Chapter 1 - The Invisible Heir

The autumn wind whipped across the quad of St. Jude University, carrying the scent of expensive cologne and old money.
Arthur Sterling kept his head down, adjusting the collar of his faded thrift-store jacket.
He ignored the whispers and the pointed stares of the elite student body walking past him.
Every person on this manicured lawn was a walking billboard for generational wealth.
Julian Vance, the undisputed king of the campus, lounged against the hood of a matte-black Lamborghini.
Julian wore a smirk that cost more than most people’s homes, flanked by his usual entourage of sycophants.
When Arthur walked by, Julian purposely extended his foot, sending Arthur tripping onto the cobblestone path.
Laughter erupted across the courtyard like a cruel, perfectly orchestrated symphony.
Arthur slowly picked himself up, dusting off his cheap denim jeans without saying a single word.
He could have bought Julian’s entire bloodline with a single phone call.
He could have demolished this entire university and turned it into a parking lot before lunch.
But Arthur had made a vow to remain entirely invisible until graduation.
He wanted to see how the world operated when they didn't know they were looking at a god.
A girl stepped out from Julian's shadow, her eyes filled with a sudden, uncharacteristic flash of pity.
It was Chloe, Julian’s girlfriend and the reigning queen of the St. Jude social hierarchy.
She handed Arthur his dropped notebook, her fingers brushing against his calloused skin for a brief second.
Julian snapped his fingers, ordering Chloe back to his side like a well-trained pet.
Arthur grabbed his bag and walked away, burying his anger deep inside his chest.
He reached the safety of the library, pulling out his heavily encrypted, burner cell phone.
There was a single, urgent message waiting for him on the dark screen.
It was from Elias, the Sterling family's most ruthless and efficient crisis manager.
The text message made Arthur's blood run completely cold.
Someone inside the university server had just successfully breached his heavily redacted background files.
His absolute anonymity, the only thing keeping him sane in this twisted place, was gone.
Elias had attached a blurry security photo of the hacker leaving the campus server room.
May you like
Arthur stared at the screen, his heart pounding violently against his ribs.
The person wearing the black hoodie in the photograph was Chloe.
