Chapter 10 - The Verdict.

The massive digital projector hummed to life, casting a bright, undeniable light across the dark courtroom walls.

David had secretly used his own security clearance to bypass the biometric lock on the drive.

The high-definition footage played clearly for the entire jury, the gallery, and the stunned judge to see.

It showed Arthur perfectly orchestrating the massive financial embezzlement and detailing exactly how he would frame Clara for it.

It also showed Arthur plotting to fake David's death using a highly untraceable, localized neurotoxin.

Arthur looked around the room, his eyes wide and completely devoid of his usual, calculating power.

He desperately tried to run toward the side exit, but the heavy courtroom doors were already securely blocked.

The armed bailiffs and police officers quickly surrounded him, pulling his arms behind his back.

They locked heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists, reading him his rights in front of the silent, shocked crowd.

The judge did not even wait for the jury to leave the room to deliberate on the facts.

He immediately struck his gavel and delivered a unanimous, binding verdict of completely not guilty.

Clara felt a massive, suffocating weight lift from her chest as she realized the nightmare was finally over.

She walked out of the courthouse, taking a deep, beautiful breath of fresh, unburdened air.

She returned to her quiet apartment that evening, finally ready to put the horrors of the trial entirely behind her.

However, sitting squarely on the center of her kitchen counter was a small, unmarked black box.

Inside the box was a single, flawless white rose and a small note written in dark, dried blood.

The note simply read that Arthur was only a temporary pawn, and the real game had just begun.
