Chapter 9 - The Edge of the Abyss

Julian and Vanessa crashed violently onto the rain-soaked concrete, completely ignoring the painful impact.
Vanessa fought with the terrifying, desperate strength of a cornered wild animal, clawing viciously at Julian's face.
Julian managed to pin her arms to the ground, panting heavily as the chemical smoke began to slowly dissipate in the wind.
"It is entirely over, Vanessa, the police are already surrounding the building," Julian yelled over the roaring helicopter engine.
Vanessa simply smiled her wicked, terrifying smile and stopped fighting against his heavy grip.
"I always have a backup plan, my sweet husband," she whispered maliciously into his ear.
With a sudden, aggressive twist of her hips, she reached down to the lace garter hidden beneath her ruined wedding dress.
She pulled out a small, incredibly sharp ceramic dagger that had completely bypassed the hotel's metal detectors.
She slashed upward with blinding speed, tearing a deep, agonizing gash straight across Julian's left forearm.
Julian roared in sudden pain, instinctively recoiling and completely releasing his strong grip on her wrists.
Vanessa scrambled to her feet, kicking Julian brutally in the chest and sending him sliding backward toward the edge of the roof.
She advanced slowly toward him with the bloody dagger raised, her eyes filled with absolute, unadulterated murder.
"You really thought a pathetic little waitresses could save you from a queen?" Vanessa mocked loudly.
Julian backed up until his heels hit the small, six-inch concrete lip separating the roof from a terrifying fifty-story drop.
He had absolutely nowhere left to run, and the blood loss in his arm was rapidly draining his remaining strength.
Vanessa lunged forward, aiming the fatal strike directly at Julian's unprotected throat.
Before the ceramic blade could pierce his skin, a heavy iron fireplace poker smashed violently into the back of Vanessa's knees.
Clara had emerged silently from the lingering smoke, delivering a devastating, perfectly timed strike.
Vanessa shrieked in agony as her legs buckled completely beneath her weight.

The sudden loss of balance sent the wicked bride stumbling wildly forward, completely unable to stop her own momentum.
She tripped heavily over the small concrete lip and plummeted backward over the jagged edge of the skyscraper.
