Chapter 9 - The Skyscraper Standoff

Elara screamed in pure agony as she saw her terrified little sister crying in the grip of the massive mercenaries.
Julian smiled wickedly, holding a loaded silver handgun loosely in his right hand.
He calmly demanded that Daniel sign the legal documents officially transferring the entire company over to him immediately.
If Daniel refused, Julian promised to throw the innocent little girl out of the towering glass window.
Daniel slowly raised his hands in surrender, agreeing to give Julian absolutely everything he wanted to save the child.
Elara, however, refused to let the man who murdered their mothers win this deadly game.
She noticed the digital thermostat glowing faintly on the boardroom wall directly behind Julian.
She quickly pulled out her modified smartphone and furiously typed a complex sequence of bypass codes.
She mathematically targeted the building's emergency fire suppression system, isolating it strictly to Julian's specific grid coordinate.
A deafening alarm suddenly blared through the room as high-pressure chemical foam blasted violently from the ceiling directly onto Julian.
The sudden, blinding attack caused the mercenaries to completely lose their grip on Elara's sister.
Daniel lunged forward with explosive speed, tackling the closest heavily armed guard to the polished floor.
Chaos erupted in the boardroom as the wealthy executives scrambled frantically toward the exit doors.
Elara sprinted through the blinding white foam and tackled her little sister, pulling her safely beneath a heavy mahogany table.
Julian wiped the stinging chemicals from his eyes, his face twisted in absolute, unhinged fury.
He raised his silver handgun and aimed it directly at Daniel's exposed back as he fought the second guard.
Daniel's loyal personal bodyguard, who had secretly infiltrated the room disguised as a caterer, dove heroically across the table.
He took the heavy bullet directly in his shoulder, saving Daniel's life but collapsing heavily to the ground.

Julian aggressively grabbed the strap of the baby carrier holding Sophie and dragged it toward the shattered glass window.
He stepped dangerously out onto the freezing, narrow concrete ledge of the skyscraper, holding the baby over the terrifying drop.
