Chapter 5 - The Bleeding Truth
The gunshot echoed violently inside the soundproof office.
Martha collapsed onto the expensive rug, clutching her bleeding shoulder.
Adrian roared in anger and lunged across the desk at his sister.
He slammed Chloe against the bookshelf, knocking the weapon from her hand.
She fought back viciously, drawing a hidden combat knife from her boot.
Chloe slashed blindly, catching Adrian across his forearm.
He ignored the burning pain and threw a heavy punch that knocked her unconscious.
Adrian dropped to his knees beside Martha, pressing his hands against her bleeding wound.
The gunshot had missed her heart, but she was losing a massive amount of blood.
The Archangel Protocol suddenly announced a one-minute warning over the speakers.
The wiping of the servers had triggered the building's automated thermal destruction sequence.
Incendiary charges inside the server walls began to hum loudly.
Adrian lifted Martha into his arms, carrying her like she had once carried him.
He kicked the glass door open and ran onto the outdoor executive helipad.
The explosion rocked the top floor, sending a shockwave of heat against his back.
They collapsed onto the cold concrete of the roof, safely away from the flames.
Adrian pulled out his emergency burner phone and called the only doctor he could trust.
An unmarked medical van arrived in the alley below thirty minutes later.
The underground doctor drew Martha's blood for an emergency transfusion.

The doctor looked at the rapid test results and turned pale.
He informed Adrian that a transfusion was impossible because Martha was not his biological mother.
