Maria lowered the trembling weapon the absolute second she recognized Daniel's face in the doorway.
"There are armed men inside the house," Daniel warned her rapidly.
Maria dropped the gun onto the bed and began frantically packing a small duffel bag.
"I know who they are, and they are not here for your money," she confessed with tears in her eyes.
She admitted that her real name was Isabella, and she used to work as an accountant for a dangerous syndicate.
She discovered that Nathan Mercer was using her cartel bosses to launder hundreds of millions of dollars.
She faked her own death and ran away with Lily to completely escape their violent world.
Daniel realized that Nathan had intentionally hired her through the agency to frame Daniel for the massive money laundering scheme.
Nathan planned to have Maria killed inside the estate, leaving her body as false evidence of Daniel's criminal guilt.
"I am going to protect both of you with my life," Daniel promised fiercely.
He pulled his phone and activated the highest level of emergency lockdown on his massive estate.
