Chapter 5 - The Shadow Twin

Leo stared at the armed boy in absolute shock and disbelief.

"Julian?" Leo whispered, his voice cracking with intense emotion.

The boy holding the gun did not lower his weapon or show any sign of recognition.

"Step away from the billionaire, Leo," Julian commanded in a cold, robotic voice.

Victoria slowly raised her hands, trying to shield Leo behind her own body.

"Julian, you do not have to listen to Marcus," Victoria pleaded softly.

Julian’s finger tightened dangerously on the metal trigger.

"The Syndicate saved me from the streets, and they ordered me to eliminate you tonight," the boy replied mechanically.

Leo bravely stepped out from behind Victoria and walked slowly toward his long-lost brother.

"They did not save you, Julian," Leo cried, tears falling freely now.

"They took you away from me, and I have been looking for you every single day," Leo sobbed.

For a brief second, the cold, emotionless mask on Julian’s face seemed to crack.

His hand trembled slightly, and the barrel of the gun dipped toward the floor.

"They told me you were dead, Leo," Julian whispered, his robotic tone finally breaking.

Before Julian could completely lower the weapon, a loud gunshot echoed through the massive cellar.

Julian screamed in pain as a bullet tore completely through his right shoulder.

He dropped his weapon and collapsed onto the cold stone floor, bleeding heavily.

Victoria spun around to see Marcus standing on the metal balcony above them, holding a smoking sniper rifle.

"If you want a job done right, you always have to do it yourself," Marcus sneered down at them.

He tossed a heavy incendiary grenade directly onto the wooden wine racks below.

The glass bottles shattered instantly as a massive wall of fire erupted across the room.

Marcus laughed cruelly and walked away, locking the only exit from the outside.
