Chapter 3 - The Ex's Return

I stared at David’s name on the screen, feeling a cold wave of nausea wash over me.

My sister had despised David when we were dating, or so she always claimed.

I realized Vanessa must have been secretly communicating with him this entire time.

I left the bank and immediately drove to the luxury car dealership where David worked as a finance manager.

I marched right onto the showroom floor, ignoring the receptionist who tried to stop me.

David was sitting at his desk, wearing a smug smile and a tailored gray suit.

He did not look surprised to see me standing there.

He stood up and casually adjusted his silk tie.

I demanded to know why fifty thousand dollars of stolen money was sitting in his offshore account.

David chuckled and leaned against his glass desk.

He said Vanessa had come to him weeks ago with a brilliant business proposition.

He explained that Vanessa knew I was saving money to buy my own architectural firm.

They had conspired to drain my credit so I would be forced to sell my current assets to him at a massive loss.

I told him I was going straight to the police with the bank records.

David’s smile faded into a cold, calculating stare.

He reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a thick legal document.

He said that if I went to the police, he would submit this contract to the state board.

He slid the paper toward me.

It was a non-compete clause holding my forged signature, which would instantly strip me of my architectural license.
