Chapter 8 - The Hostile Takeover

The emergency board meeting of the Sterling Group was held in the grand penthouse boardroom of the hotel. Richard Sterling was desperately pitching his foreign buyout to the twelve board members to save himself from bankruptcy.

"If we finalize this sale today, gentlemen, our portfolios will rebound by next quarter," Richard promised, sweating profusely.

The heavy glass doors slammed open.

Clara walked in, flanked by Alexander and three of the city’s top corporate litigators.

"The sale is canceled," Clara announced, her voice echoing in the cavernous room.

"Security! Get her out of here!" Richard roared.

"They won't answer you, Richard," Alexander smirked, leaning against the doorframe. "I bought out the security firm an hour ago."

Clara walked directly to the head of the table. She slammed the original forged deed and the forensic analysis onto the polished glass.

"My name is Clara Vanguard," she told the board. "Twenty years ago, Richard Sterling forged my father’s signature to steal this hotel. The documents you see before you are proof of his forgery, embezzlement, and wire fraud."

The board members scrambled to read the documents. Their faces turned pale.

"It's a lie! It's fabricated!" Richard screamed, lunging for the papers.

Alexander’s lawyers stepped in front of him. "Mr. Sterling, the FBI has already verified the documents. They are waiting in the lobby."

Clara leaned over the table, staring directly into the eyes of the man who had ruined her family. "You stole my father's legacy. You forced my mother to die in poverty. You made me scrub the floors of my own home."

She smiled, a terrifying, beautiful expression of pure vengeance. "You are stripped of your CEO title. I am assuming immediate control of the Vanguard assets. You have five minutes to clear out your desk before the Feds put you in handcuffs."
