Chapter 1 - The Crimson Stain

The ballroom was a sea of glittering diamonds and whispered scandals, but Clara only had eyes for the tray of crystal champagne flutes balanced on her palm. She was navigating the edge of the dance floor when Victoria Sterling stepped directly into her path.
Victoria was the heiress to the Sterling Group, the conglomerate that owned the Majestic Sovereign Hotel. She wore a custom emerald-green silk gown that clung to her perfectly sculpted figure. She was beautiful, but her eyes held the cold, dead cruelty of a shark.
Victoria didn’t just bump into Clara; she deliberately shifted her weight, driving her sharp stiletto heel directly into Clara’s instep.
Clara gasped, her knee buckling. The silver tray tipped. A single flute of vintage Dom Pérignon slipped, splashing a few drops onto the hem of Victoria’s emerald gown.
The music didn't stop, but the immediate vicinity fell dead silent.
"Look what you've done," Victoria hissed, her voice carrying the sharp crack of a whip. "You clumsy, incompetent rat."
Clara immediately dropped to her knees, pulling a white cloth from her apron. "I am so sorry, Miss Sterling. Please, let me—"
"Don't touch me!" Victoria shrieked, kicking Clara’s hand away. "This dress costs more than your miserable life! You will pay for this. I want you fired. I want you blacklisted from every establishment in this city!"
Clara’s heart stopped. If she lost this job, she couldn't afford her sister Lily’s dialysis treatments next week. Desperation clawed at her throat. "Please, Miss Sterling. My sister is sick. I need this job. I beg of you."
Victoria smiled, a twisted, wicked curve of her lips. She picked up a full glass of red wine from a nearby table. "You want to keep your job? Then apologize properly. Beg like the dog you are."
Before Clara could process the words, Victoria tilted her wrist and poured the entire glass of Cabernet over Clara’s head. The dark red liquid dripped down Clara’s face, staining her white collar like blood.
The socialites surrounding them erupted into cruel, mocking laughter.
Clara remained on her knees. The wine stung her eyes. The laughter echoed in her ears. But as she looked at the marble floor, the terror vanished. A cold, terrifying calm washed over her.
Clara slowly stood up. The silence that followed was heavy. She didn't cry. She looked Victoria dead in the eye, her posture suddenly radiating an authority that belonged to a queen, not a servant.
"The Sterling Group’s Q3 earnings were inflated by twenty percent using shell companies in the Cayman Islands," Clara said, her voice completely level, but loud enough for the surrounding tycoons to hear. "You are leveraging this hotel against toxic debt. Your father is bankrupt, Victoria. And that dress is a rental."

Victoria’s face drained of color. The tycoons around her began to whisper frantically.
Clara unpinned her nametag and dropped it into Victoria’s empty wine glass. "I quit."
