Chapter 3 - The Devil’s Contract

Alexander’s penthouse was a fortress of glass and steel overlooking the financial district. For the next three days, Clara lived in a whirlwind of legal documents and strategy sessions. True to his word, Alexander had moved Lily into a private VIP suite at the city’s best hospital, fully funded.

"Richard Sterling is trying to sell the hotel to a foreign conglomerate next month to cover his massive debts," Alexander explained, pacing in front of a digital whiteboard. "If he signs that contract, the Vanguard legacy is gone forever. We have to prove the original deed was forged before the sale goes through."

"The original deed is locked in the Sterling private vault on the top floor of the hotel," Clara said, sipping a hot espresso. "I know. I’ve cleaned the hallway outside of it."

"We can't just steal it. It won't hold up in court if it's illegally obtained," Alexander said, leaning over the table. "We need to trick Richard into presenting it himself. And to do that, we need a Trojan Horse."

He looked at Clara. "We need to introduce you to high society. Not as a maid. As a billionaire."

"I don't know how to act like a billionaire," Clara said, suddenly feeling very small.

Alexander stepped closer, his hand gently lifting her chin. The proximity made Clara’s heart race. "You have the blood of a titan in your veins, Clara. You just forgot how to roar. I will teach you."

Over the next two weeks, Alexander transformed her. He brought in dialect coaches, etiquette experts, and the world’s finest stylists. Clara absorbed the information with the ferocity of a starving wolf. She learned how to read stock portfolios, how to manipulate a conversation, and how to command a room without speaking a word.

When the day of the transformation was complete, Clara stood before a full-length mirror. Gone was the mousy, terrified waitress. Staring back at her was a breathtaking, lethal woman in a blood-red Alexander McQueen power suit.

Alexander walked up behind her, his eyes blazing with admiration and something deeper. "Are you ready, partner?"

"Let’s go hunting," Clara replied.
