Chapter 5 - The Traitor

Gabriel stopped dead in the hallway, his jaw clenching with pure, unadulterated fury.
He asked his security chief exactly who had accessed the biometric locks on the underground vault.
The radio crackled as the guard confirmed that Mrs. Morrison, the house manager, was the only person seen on the cameras.
Harper gasped, realizing the strict older woman who had hired her was actually a mole.
Mrs. Morrison had purposely hired a desperate, battered woman to use as a convenient distraction.
Gabriel shoved his radio back into his pocket and dragged Harper quickly toward the waiting SUV.
He told his driver to lock down the entire estate and shoot anyone trying to leave the property.
As the SUV sped toward the Seaport district, Gabriel opened a hidden compartment under his seat.
He pulled out a sleek, compact pistol and pressed it firmly into Harper's trembling hands.
He told her that she needed to protect herself because the warehouse was going to be a war zone.
Harper stared at the heavy weapon, having never held a gun in her entire life.
Gabriel placed his large hands over hers, showing her how to release the safety and pull the trigger.
His touch was warm and steady, providing a strange sense of comfort in the absolute chaos.
He looked into her eyes and told her that she was no longer a victim.
Harper gripped the gun tightly, a new, fierce determination replacing her paralyzing fear.
They arrived at the edge of the Seaport district, completely surrounded by abandoned shipping containers and rusting cranes.
Gabriel parked the SUV in a dark alley and signaled for his backup team to surround the perimeter.
They crept silently toward the massive, rusted doors of Warehouse 42.
Gabriel held up his hand, signaling for Harper to wait behind a stack of wooden pallets.
He kicked the side door open and stepped into the dimly lit, cavernous building.
Instantly, bright floodlights snapped on, blinding them completely.
A dozen men armed with automatic rifles stepped out of the shadows, completely surrounding Gabriel.
Derek walked out from behind a shipping crate, holding a terrified, crying Noah by the collar.
Derek smiled wickedly and pointed his gun directly at Gabriel’s head.
May you like
He laughed and announced that Mrs. Morrison had not just stolen the ledger.
She had also removed the firing pins from all of Gabriel's backup team's weapons.
