Chapter 5 - The Sister's Secret

Daniel stared at the woman in the doorway as if he were looking at a literal ghost.

My daughter, Sarah, stood tall and elegant, completely alive and entirely unharmed.

She looked at her younger brother with an expression of cold, unyielding disgust.

Daniel stammered helplessly, completely unable to form a single coherent sentence.

I walked out from the living area of the suite and stood firmly beside my beautiful daughter.

Daniel looked at me with wild, panicked eyes and asked how this was physically possible.

I calmly invited him inside the suite and closed the heavy mahogany door behind him.

I told Daniel that I had finally learned the absolute truth about his sister's sudden disappearance five years ago.

Sarah sat down on the leather sofa and calmly folded her hands in her lap.

She explained that Daniel had secretly framed her for massive corporate fraud within my primary business.

He had created fake financial trails to make it look like Sarah was embezzling millions from my retirement funds.

Daniel had then threatened to hand the fake evidence over to the police unless Sarah left the country permanently.

He had lied to Margaret and me, claiming Sarah had died in a fiery crash overseas to ensure he remained the sole heir.

Daniel frantically shook his head and claimed that Sarah was a manipulative liar trying to steal his inheritance.

I raised my hand to instantly silence his pathetic, desperate excuses.

I pulled a thick stack of certified legal documents from the coffee table and tossed them at his feet.

The documents contained irrefutable proof from federal investigators that Daniel was the true mastermind behind the corporate theft.

Sarah had spent the last five years secretly working with Michael Wallace to completely clear her name.

Daniel collapsed onto a nearby chair, burying his face in his hands as his entire world completely unraveled.

He wept loudly, desperately begging me to remember that he was still my only son.

He pleaded for a second chance, promising to change his arrogant ways and become the man I always wanted him to be.

I looked at him with a heart completely devoid of any remaining sympathy.

I told him that Margaret would have been utterly ashamed of the monster he had chosen to become.

Sarah reached into her designer handbag and pulled out a separate, much darker folder.

She tossed it onto Daniel’s lap without breaking her icy eye contact.

She told him that the fake art and Claire’s betrayal were actually the absolute least of his current problems.

Daniel opened the folder with trembling fingers and his breath completely caught in his throat.

The documents were highly confidential loan agreements from a notorious underground crime syndicate.

Daniel had secretly borrowed over three million dollars from dangerous loan sharks to fund a failed cryptocurrency venture.

He had foolishly used the Beacon Hill house as collateral, forging my signature to secure the illegal funds.

Sarah calmly informed him that the loan sharks had discovered the forgery just yesterday.

They realized Daniel did not actually own the massive asset he had promised them.

Daniel began to hyperventilate, clutching his chest as genuine terror consumed his entire body.

He looked at me with pleading, bloodshot eyes and begged me to pay off the massive debt to save his life.

He swore that violent men would kill him before the end of the week if he did not produce the cash.

I simply adjusted my suit jacket and walked toward the master bedroom of the suite.

I told him I would absolutely never use Margaret’s hard-earned money to pay off violent criminals.

Daniel screamed my name as the hotel security guards entered the suite to physically remove him.

As the guards dragged him toward the elevator, Daniel's phone began to ring loudly in his pocket.

The caller ID displayed the name of the ruthless loan shark he owed his life to.
