Chapter 3 - The Eviction Notice

Daniel stared at the photograph in absolute silence as his hands began to tremble.
The image was a high-resolution snapshot from a security camera inside my private study.
It clearly showed Daniel digging through my desk drawers in the middle of the night.
The second photograph showed him carefully forging my signature on a massive corporate loan application.
The bank manager coldly informed Daniel that the bank was fully aware of the fraudulent activity.
He stated that the only reason they had not contacted the federal authorities was because I had explicitly asked them to wait.
Daniel stumbled backward, suddenly realizing the immense danger he had put himself in.
He rushed out of the bank and drove back to the Beacon Hill house in a complete panic.
He found Claire standing in the living room, surrounded by dozens of expensive cardboard boxes.
She had just received an email from her most lucrative brand sponsor.
The company had abruptly canceled her contract because the background check revealed massive credit defaults.
Claire threw a heavy crystal vase across the room, shattering it against the stone fireplace.
She screamed at Daniel, demanding to know how he could let this happen to her perfect lifestyle.
Daniel tried to explain the severity of the forged documents, but Claire refused to listen.
She told him she was going to sell the antique artwork hanging in the hallway to cover her credit card bills.
She immediately called a prestigious art appraiser to visit the house that very afternoon.
I watched all of this unfold from the comfortable living room of my luxury hotel suite.
Michael had installed discreet security cameras in the main living areas of the house years ago for Margaret’s safety.
Daniel and Claire had been far too self-absorbed to ever notice the tiny lenses hidden in the crown molding.
The art appraiser arrived at the house wearing a tailored suit and white cotton gloves.
Claire proudly led him down the hallway and pointed to the massive oil paintings my grandfather had brought from Europe.
She confidently demanded an immediate cash offer for the entire collection.
The appraiser carefully examined the first painting with a magnifying glass.
He stepped back and let out a quiet, highly unprofessional laugh.
He informed Claire that the painting was a completely worthless replica printed on textured canvas.
Claire argued furiously, insisting the artwork had been in the wealthy family for generations.
The appraiser calmly explained that the original masterpieces had been legally removed by a private security firm three weeks ago.
I had quietly replaced every valuable item in the house with cheap copies while they were away on a weekend vacation.
Claire collapsed onto the staircase, weeping uncontrollably as her perceived wealth evaporated into nothing.
Daniel paced the foyer like a trapped animal, desperately trying to figure out a way to find me.
He pulled out his phone and transferred the last two thousand dollars from his personal checking account.
He hired a private investigator who specialized in locating wealthy individuals trying to hide.
Daniel told Claire that he was going to find the hotel where I was staying and force me to sign a new power of attorney.
He confidently promised her that everything would be back to normal by the end of the week.
He grabbed his coat and stormed out of the house to meet the private investigator.
Claire waited until she heard the front door click shut.
Then she wiped away her fake tears and walked quickly into their master bedroom.

She reached under the mattress and pulled out a hidden duffel bag stuffed with thick stacks of hundred-dollar bills.
She had been secretly siphoning cash from Daniel’s personal accounts for the last six months.
