Chapter 6 - The Chaos In The Dark
Sparks showered from the shattered brickwork as bullets tore through the air.
Vincent grabbed Alina by the waist and threw her behind a massive oak wine barrel.
Dominic used his tactical flashlight to blind the mercenaries for a fraction of a second.
He fired two quick shots, dropping the man standing closest to Leo.
Leo screamed in anger and fired blindly into the dark cellar.
Vincent crawled rapidly across the damp floor, moving silently through the shadows.
He flanked the stairs, coming up right behind the remaining mercenary.
He drove his tactical knife deep into the man's neck.
The mercenary collapsed without making a single sound.
Leo realized he was suddenly alone and backed up the stairs in a panic.
He yelled into his radio, calling for the rest of his men to swarm the basement.
Dominic quickly barricaded the heavy wooden door at the top of the stairs.
Vincent rushed back to Alina and Mia.
He asked Alina if she had the wooden truck with her.
Alina shook her head, tears streaming down her face in the dark.
She had left it in the main foyer right before the explosion.
Vincent knew Leo's men would find it within minutes.
If Leo got the ledger, he would have total control over billions of dollars in illegal assets.
Vincent told Dominic they had to retrieve that toy before Leo did.
Dominic pointed out that it was a suicide mission to go back upstairs into the swarm.
Vincent loaded a fresh magazine into his pistol.
He looked at Mia, remembering that the brave little girl had just saved his life.
