Chapter 10 - A New Dawn
Vincent stared up at the corrupt federal agent.
He realized Leo had bought off the authorities too.
Before the agent could pull the trigger, a loud crack echoed through the cellar.
The corrupt agent collapsed forward, dropping his weapon.
Dominic stood at the top of the stairs, smoke rising from his barrel.
He had refused to leave the estate without ensuring his boss was safe.
Real FBI agents flooded the room seconds later, fully securing the area.
Paramedics treated Vincent's gunshot wound on the front lawn while the FBI processed the crime scene.
Leo and his surviving mercenaries were marched out in heavy iron chains.
Vincent watched them go, feeling no remorse for burning his grandfather's bloody empire to the ground.
Dominic emerged from the dark tree line near the lake.
He was supporting Alina, who was carrying a sleeping Mia in her arms.
Vincent stood up despite the pain in his shoulder and walked over to them.
Alina wept tears of pure relief, thanking him for keeping his promise to save them.
Vincent gently brushed a smudge of dirt from Mia's sleeping face.
He told Alina that he owed the little girl his life, and he always paid his debts.
Six months later, Alina unlocked the front door of a beautiful new house in sunny California.
Vincent had set up a massive, completely legitimate trust fund for Mia's future.
They never had to worry about money, danger, or the mafia ever again.
Mia happily ran into the bright living room, dropping her toys onto the plush carpet.
Dominic was now running a fully legal private security firm, and Vincent had retired to a quiet life abroad.
The dark shadows of Chicago were finally a distant, fading memory.
Alina smiled as she began unpacking the last box of old clothes.
She reached into the pocket of an old winter coat she hadn't worn since Illinois.
Her fingers brushed against a small, cold piece of heavy metal.
May you like
She pulled it out and realized it was a sophisticated GPS tracking device with a blinking green light.
Her cell phone suddenly vibrated on the table with an incoming call from an unknown number.
