Chapter 5 - The Blood Betrayal

Leo Marchetti smiled down at his older brother with cold, dead eyes.
Vincent demanded to know why his own blood was leading a cartel hit squad into his home.
Leo casually slung his rifle over his shoulder.
He explained that the commission was tired of Vincent running the business like a legitimate corporation.
They wanted the drugs and the weapons flowing back through the city ports.
Vincent had refused, so the commission had promised the entire empire to Leo.
Dominic slowly raised his weapon, but Vincent silently signaled him to hold his fire.
There were too many guns pointed at Alina and Mia.
Leo demanded that Vincent hand over the master ledger drive containing all the syndicate's offshore accounts.
Vincent calmly stated that the drive was hidden in a secure vault downtown.
Leo laughed, shaking his head in mock pity.
He revealed that he had already tortured Vincent's accountant three days ago.
The accountant confessed that the drive was not in any bank vault.
It was hidden inside a cheap, hollow wooden toy belonging to the maid's daughter.
Alina gasped in pure shock, looking down at her empty hands.
She realized her late husband, who had worked as a low-level clerk for the company, must have hidden it there.
Leo pointed his gun directly at little Mia.
He ordered his men to go upstairs and retrieve the wooden truck from the foyer.
He stated that as soon as he had the drive, everyone in the basement would be executed.
Vincent suddenly kicked the main electrical breaker box on the wall behind him.

The basement plunged back into absolute darkness.
A deafening volley of automatic gunfire erupted in the confined space.
