Chapter 6 - The Turncoat

I needed them to turn on each other completely. There is no honor among thieves, and there is certainly no loyalty between murderers.

I sent a text to Sarah's phone.

Thomas just called me. He’s going to the cops. He said you planned the whole thing and forced him to help. He's cutting a plea deal.

I watched the live feed on my screen. Sarah’s phone chimed. She looked down at the text, and the color drained from her face. She slowly looked up at Thomas, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.

"Who were you just on the phone with in the driveway?" Sarah asked, her voice dropping an octave.

Thomas blinked, confused. "Nobody. I was checking my voicemail. Why?"

"You're trying to cut a deal, aren't you?" Sarah backed away toward the kitchen island. "You're going to pin this on me."

"Are you insane? Mark is playing us!" Thomas yelled, running his hands through his hair. "We need to get out of here. We need to grab whatever cash is left and run to Mexico."

"Running proves we're guilty!" Sarah shouted. She reached behind her on the counter, her hand wrapping around the handle of a heavy kitchen knife. "I'm not going to prison for you, Tommy. I did this for the insurance money. I did this to fix your mess."

"My mess? You swung the hammer, Sarah!" Thomas screamed. "You hit the old man when he woke up! I just carried the bag!"

May you like

Bingo.

I stopped the recording. I now had a high-definition confession of the actual murder, in their own words.
