Chapter 9 - The Hostage Trade
Chloe stared at the dark crimson stain, her mind violently racing to put the terrifying pieces together.
Her mother noticed her stare and casually claimed the blood belonged to the corrupt detective she had just executed.
Chloe knew that was an absolute, bold-faced lie because the detective had been shot from at least ten feet away.
She subtly unbuckled her seatbelt, preparing to violently throw herself out of the moving armored vehicle if necessary.
She asked her mother to stop the car immediately so they could retrieve Sam from the luxury apartment.
Her mother smiled a cold, entirely emotionless smile and locked the heavy doors from the driver's console.
She calmly informed Chloe that Sam was already safely secured in the trunk of the vehicle.
She completely admitted to breaking into Dominic's heavily guarded apartment and slitting Paulie's throat to get the boy.
Chloe screamed in pure, unfiltered horror, completely unable to believe her own mother would murder an innocent man.
Her mother accelerated toward the massive, heavily fortified gates of the rival syndicate's sprawling compound.
She coldly explained that the rival boss needed Chloe's exact biometric fingerprints to unlock the stolen property deeds.
Sam was simply incredibly valuable leverage to ensure Chloe cooperated flawlessly with the painful extraction process.
They completely smashed through the front gates, coming to a violent stop in the center of the dark courtyard.
Dozens of heavily armed mercenaries surrounded the vehicle, pulling Chloe aggressively from the passenger seat.
Her mother opened the trunk and dragged a crying, completely terrified Sam out by his small collar.
The mercenaries pushed them both forcefully toward the massive steel doors of the underground bunker.
Chloe knew that once they were locked inside that bunker, they would never see the sunlight again.
She desperately searched the dark courtyard for any possible weapon or avenue of escape.

Dominic stepped out of the thick black smoke holding an assault rifle, completely surrounded by his own private army.
