Chapter 10 - The False Victory
Dominic had not abandoned Chloe at the bridge at all; he had been successfully tracking her mother the entire night.
A massive, deafening firefight instantly erupted across the bloody courtyard as the two rival syndicates clashed violently.
Dominic moved through the absolute chaos with terrifying, lethal precision, eliminating the mercenaries blocking his path.
Chloe used the chaotic distraction to aggressively tackle her mother, wrestling the suppressed pistol from her older hands.
She grabbed a terrified Sam and ran desperately toward the safety of Dominic's heavily armored cover.
Dominic provided flawless covering fire, allowing Chloe and the boy to slip safely behind a thick concrete barricade.
The brutal gun battle raged for ten agonizing minutes before Dominic's superior forces finally overwhelmed the rival mercenaries.
The rival compound was completely secured, and the remaining enemies surrendered heavily to the Rossi family enforcers.
Chloe's mother was violently dragged before Dominic, bleeding heavily and completely defeated.
Dominic coldly executed the treacherous woman without a single word of hesitation, permanently ending the threat.
Chloe completely collapsed into the mud, holding Sam tightly against her chest as tears of pure relief streamed down her face.
Dominic knelt gently beside her, wiping the mud from her cheek with a rare, incredibly soft expression of genuine care.
He promised her that the nightmare was finally over and that she and her brother were permanently safe under his absolute protection.
They returned to the luxury apartment, finally feeling a profound sense of peace and undeniable security.
Chloe tucked a completely exhausted Sam into his warm bed, deeply grateful that Dominic had risked his empire to save them.
She walked out into the massive living room to thank the powerful mafia boss properly for his heroic rescue.
Dominic was sitting on the pristine white sofa, casually pouring two expensive glasses of aged scotch.
He smiled warmly at her, his eyes looking entirely relaxed and completely victorious.
Chloe smiled back and walked toward the small coffee table to accept the celebratory drink.
She accidentally kicked Dominic's discarded leather briefcase, sending the heavy clasp springing completely open.
A pristine, officially notarized document slid out onto the expensive rug, directly into her line of sight.

It was an incredibly detailed, fully executed contract between Dominic and the corrupt Detective Miller.
The contract definitively proved that Dominic had actually hired Miller to fake the blackmail plot just to force Chloe's mother completely out of hiding.
